roger wicker, republican of mississippi were mailed from memphis, tennessee on april 8th. so last week there was no return address on them according to sources. they contain similar wording, including this quote to see a wrong and not expose it is to become a silent partner to its continuance. and both letters were signed i am k.c. and i approve this message. k.c. according to this arrest tonight may translate to kenneth curtis. of course, he has not been convicted of anything so far. but we are told last night by sources very carefully that arrest warrants may be issued today. they had a good idea that this guy came from the state of mississippi. was a frequent letter writer to federal officials here in washington so the tone of the letters did not surprise them. the contents of the letters testing positive, at least initially for ricin was a surprise. but the important news, the good news for people here on capitol hill who were terrorized by letters 12 years ago was the fact that essentially that these were captured, alarms went off at offsite facilities so these got nowhere cl

developing story we are monitoring. nbc news has confirmed a letter sent to senator roger wicker was intercepted and initially tested positive for the poison, ricen. pete williams will join us with the latest on this story. but first, while we may not know anything about who attacked the boston marathon yesterday or why, just over 24 hours after the explosion, there is a lot of new information tonight about the devices used in the attack. about to exekt from the investigation. there were two explosive devices which exploded yesterday. no more along the route or city of boston. the devices appear to have consists of explosive and shrapnel put into pressure cookers. they have recovered black nylon bags at the sights of both devices. they are believed to have been used to transport the devices to the scene. what happens next is that every single fragment of bomb material recovered from those sites will be sent to an fbi land in quantico, virginia, where they can be analyzed by the fbi and atf experts and even checked for dna. investigators have launched a major push to seek information

intercepted before it reached roger wicker of mississippi. we also know where the letter might have come from. we don't know, shannon, correct me if i'm wrong, we don't know who sent that letter. >> you're exactly right. we have a clue about where it might have come from. it was postmarked memphis, tennessee, but there was no return address. that's the information from the senate sergeant at arms terrance gainer in an e-mail to senators and aides. experts performed more tests today to determine if without a doubt the substance on the letter was ricin. a maryland laboratory confirmed the presence of ricin, but the fbi said feel tests can be unreliable but only a full analysis can determine if the poison was present. the fbi says those tests generally take 24 to 48 hours. those tests will happen at an army research lab in maryland. of course coming just a day after the terror attack in boston, it's reasonable to wonder if this potentially poisonous letter is linked to boston. the chairman of the house homeland security committee said at this point no. >> it did test positive for ricin. we
